okay / not okay / neither

She has obliterated the illusions of "okay" and "not okay." The idea of "okay" ignores the reality of change. If things are "okay," they won't be later. If things aren't "okay," those things are going to change. The impression of "static" states like "okay" and "good" are illusions. She doesn't get too excited about a happy circumstance, and she doesn't get too dejected by "setbacks."

compassion

The "improving" of her "self" is "reward" enough; but there is no one there to improve, and that "self" that does not exist does not need a reward. There is simply more understanding in a brain that has practiced realizing these things.

She is not practicing to change the world. The world is going to change no matter what, since change is constant. She Practices with no expectation of reward. But the Understanding happens, and after that, Compassion for others.

it squirms

It fights; it squirms. It complains that it is bored. It complains about people, places, and things. It complains about circumstance. It throws tantrums and kicks. She continues to calmly observe this struggling creature, the mind.

She does this every day for many, many days.

When she labels her thoughts, she doesn't get caught up in her thoughts. She does this every day for several months. She does this every day for a year. For a long time, it all seems so mechanical. Her mind wanders constantly. There doesn't seem to be any improvement.

She does not give up. She meditates every day. She does this every day for many, many days.

She realizes that, during the course of her daily work-a-day routine, she has begun to notice her thoughts instead of getting caught up in them, and it helps her cope with many varieties of mundane bullshit.

The "Center"

The "center" of the universe can be any point, since it goes out in all directions. Meditate on a point behind "your" forehead, or inside "your" chest cavity. That point isn't even microscopic, as it has no dimensions. The point is in the mind. Breathe and listen to that breath. It is not "your" center, since there is no "you" to possess that center. It is not "your" breath, since there is no "you" to possess that breath. Breathing happens. Meditation happens. A creature happens.

Focus and meditate. Hear a creature breathe. That creature imagines an "I" within it.
